European Waterways has launched a new culinary-themed cruise aboard Enchanté through the southwest of France.
While meandering the Canal du Midi, guests will be spoiled with an array of culinary delights during the six-night itinerary.
Available as a charter only, this tailored cruise is perfect for getting a bunch of friends together to indulge in the region’s wonderful products and to meet the artisans behind them. Enchanté is a double-decker hotel barge that provides luxurious accommodation for up to eight guests.
After boarding from Narbonne and a champagne arrival, guests can look forward to some unique food experiences of the region. Find yourself on the hunt for truffles in the Minervois Hills and tasting the elusive white truffle; visiting a renowned farm that breeds the special Petit Gris variety of escargot; and tour L’Oulibo, a long-established olive oil press that produces the purist extra virgin olive oil from the Lucques olive.
For those who like to don the white apron, guests can partake in a hands-on French cooking class alongside the Canal du Midi and enjoy demonstrations throughout the cruise by the onboard Masterchef. There is also the opportunity to visit the extraordinary indoor market in Narbonne where guests can join the chef to choose the ingredients for that evening’s dinner.
While there will be those searching for a culinary education, the itinerary provides a wonderful combination of relaxing too. Guests can make use of the spacious sun deck, with alfresco dining area and spa pool.
The culinary cruise aboard Enchanté is a six-night itinerary including a five-person crew, all gourmet meals, fine wines, an open bar, daily escorted excursions and local transfers. Charter bookings are from €36,000 (AU $51,500). Special 10 per cent discount applies for all March, April and May departures.
