Croatian shipyard Brodosplit says it is on track for delivery of Quark Expeditions‘ newest ice-class ship, Ultramarine, during the first half of February 2021.
Brodosplit revealed the 199-passenger vessel, which will house two helicopters and a collection of zodiacs for wider exploration, would operate a series of “test runs” on the waters surrounding Split before the ship’s handover.
The shipyard continued with the construction of Ultramarine throughout the coronavirus pandemic, which the company said reflects “the ability of Brodosplit to complete the ordered works within the agreed deadlines, even in the most difficult conditions”.

Ultramarine was originally projected to enter service during the 2020/2021 Antarctica season, but according to Quark Expeditions’ website, will now debut in May 2021, initially operating a series of expeditions to Spitsbergen from Oslo, Norway.
In late June the polar ship is expected to operate from Reykjavik, Iceland before relocating to Toronto, Canada in mid-August, then Buenos Aires, Argentina from late-October where it will offer a series of Antarctica sailings until March 2022.
Ultramarine touched water for the first time in May 2020.
