MSC Fantasia marked a milestone in Barcelona’s maritime history when it became the first ship to call at the city’s newly inaugurated MSC Barcelona Cruise Terminal on Saturday 15 February.

The cutting-edge facility, designed to cater to both MSC Cruises and Explora Journeys ships, represents a significant infrastructure development for MSC Group’s Cruise Division.

The occasion was commemorated by Sandra Yunta, Director of the new cruise terminal, who welcomed the first passengers with a special toast of cava. Gianluca Suprani, SVP of Global Port Development and Shore Activities, also joined the celebration. This new terminal not only highlights MSC Group’s commitment to enhancing the travel experience but also reinforces the company’s long-term vision for Barcelona as a key port of call.

Designed by renowned architects Ricardo Bofill Taller de Arquitectura (RBTA), the terminal is a true blend of innovation and elegance. With its state-of-the-art facilities, it ensures guests have a seamless and enjoyable journey from the very start of their trip.

While the terminal’s official inauguration is set for the coming months, this soft launch marks the beginning of a new chapter in the cruise industry, further strengthening Barcelona’s position as one of Europe’s most prominent cruise destinations, according to MSC.

The cruise line said the new terminal serves as a symbol of its commitment to enhancing guest experiences while shaping the future of cruising.
