50 Degrees North offers new ‘hyper-local’ Norway experiences

Specialist Nordic tour operator 50 Degrees North has unveiled two new itineraries designed to showcase the hidden gems of Norway through a “hyper-local” lens.

These independent itineraries offer unique experiences, blending boutique stays, cultural immersion, and scenic journeys, all aimed at offering travellers an alternative to the typical tourist trail. Both packages provide an opportunity to gain rare insights into regional life, With a strong emphasis on local culture, sustainable tourism, and slow travel.

“With a focus on local food, history, and culture, these itineraries meet the demand for authentic, immersive experiences that allow travellers to connect with the true essence of Norway,” Satu Vänskä-Westgarth, Director of Product at 50 Degrees North, said.

“From intimate farm stays to historical insights and stunning landscapes, they provide a unique opportunity to engage with local culture in a way that larger, mainstream offerings often can’t.”

One of the new itineraries, Local Secrets of Norway by Rail, is a seven-day journey from Oslo to Ålesund. This premium rail-based experience takes travellers through the picturesque Gudbrandsdal Valley and Rauma Line to Åndalsnes. Highlights include stays at boutique hotels, farm visits with tastings, canoeing in serene mountain lakes, and an e-bike ride along the Trollstigen mountain road. Prices from AUD$5,175 (Superior).

Meanwhile, the second offering, Heroes of Telemark and Hardangerfjord Self-Drive, is a nine-day self-drive adventure from Oslo to Bergen. This itinerary combines flexibility with curated activities, including a visit to Rjukan, site of WWII’s heavy water sabotage, RIB safari, cider tasting, and stays at local farms and mountain lodges.
