The historic San Clemente Palace Hotel in Venice, Italy will rebrand as Mandarin Oriental, Venice in April 2026, after a three-phase renovation – marking the hotel brand’s debut in the popular destination.

Mandarin Oriental will operate the hotel, formerly a Kempinski property, until its seasonal closure in November 2025 when its transformation will begin. The reimagined property will feature 136 elegantly appointed rooms and suites.

“We are delighted to bring Mandarin Oriental’s legendary service to Venice,” Mandarin Oriental Group CEO Laurent Kleitman said.

“This historic property, with its unique location and rich heritage, aligns perfectly with our vision to craft immersive experiences that allow guests to connect meaningfully with the destination. By adding Venice to our Italian portfolio, we enrich our circuit of destinations across Italy, adding to our current hotels in Milan and Lake Como as well as our upcoming openings in Rome, Cortina and Porto Cervo.”

The interior renovation will be carried out by design studio, Albion Nord, blending Venetian charm with Mandarin Oriental’s signature design philosophy.

The five-hectare private island is easily accessible from the centre of Venice via an eight-minute boat ride from San Marco Square. The hotel itself is set within a collection of beautifully restored 900-year old monastery buildings and gardens including a 12th century church with views across the Venetian lagoon.

When it emerges from its refurbishment, Mandarin Oriental, Venice will feature four dining venues and a spa with multiple treatment rooms, a Finnish sauna, steam bath, multi-sensory showers and a relaxation lounge. Other wellness amenities will include a dedicated yoga pavilion, an outdoor pool, tennis and paddle courts. There will also be a dedicated children’s area.

Emir Uyar, Vice President of Permak Investment, said the partnership with Mandarin Oriental ushers in a “new era” for the San Clemente Palace.

“As one of Venice’s most storied private islands, this landmark deserves the legendary service and refined hospitality that Mandarin Oriental is renowned for,” he said. “We look forward to seeing the property’s transformation unfold and welcoming guests to an unparalleled luxury experience in this extraordinary setting.”
