Viking will expand its river cruise offerings with its first voyages in India, with new 80-guest vessel, the Viking Brahmaputra, set to debut in late 2027 with a voyage between Guwahati and Nimati Ghat in the northeastern state of Assam.
The Brahmaputra river cruise will form part of Viking’s newly unveiled 15-day Wonders of India itinerary.
“With its rich heritage, deep cultural traditions and fascinating natural wonders, India is a vast and vibrant country that has captured the imagination of explorers for centuries,” said Torstein Hagen, Chairman and CEO of Viking.
“In recent years, our guests have particularly enjoyed visiting Indian ports on our ocean itineraries. We are now delighted to introduce a new way for curious travellers to explore the heart of this phenomenal country, in-depth and in Viking comfort.”

The Viking Brahmaputra is currently under construction and is being designed specifically for the unique conditions of the Brahmaputra River. It will feature 40 outside staterooms, each with floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors and private verandas. Guests will enjoy amenities such as a spa and fitness centre and an open-air Sky Bar on the upper deck, all channelling Viking’s clean, modern Scandinavian design.
The Wonders of India itinerary includes an eight-day river cruise and a fully guided land tour with overnight stays in Delhi, Agra, and Jaipur. It will include 13 tours, offering guests the opportunity to experience as many as 10 UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
Highlights of the itinerary include visits to Agra’s iconic Taj Mahal, the historic streets of Old Delhi and the ornate Palace of Winds in Jaipur. On the river, guests will explore Guwahati’s temples, the rural beauty of Assam’s river villages, and the wildlife of Kaziranga National Park, including chances to spot one-horned rhinos and buffalo. Travellers will also experience Majuli, one of the world’s largest river islands and a centre of Assamese culture.
Viking is also offering several pre- and post-cruise extensions, including guided stays in Delhi, Dubai, Kathmandu, and a Cochin and Mumbai program, for travellers seeking deeper cultural immersion.
