An extensive renovation of Baines’ Lodge in Botswana’s UNESCO-listed Okavango Delta is now complete, with the A&K Sanctuary property reopening its doors to guests. The enhancement was revealed first by LATTE in April last year.

With just six suites on stilts, the property sits above the floodplains with sweeping views of the nature and wildlife.

The revamp aimed to blend the property’s “understated elegance” with cutting-edge sustainability, using pastel tones and rich wood tones to complement the surrounding environment.

“The lodge is conceived as a living art gallery, with strong linear pavilion lines and timber structures that frame the Delta as the true artistry, drawing the outdoors into the architecture,” the company said.

“Elevated wooden walkways connect the private suites and communal spaces, drawing you into the heart of the lodge: its open-plan lounge, dining, bar, library and poolside areas, each flowing seamlessly into the next.”

Guests can discover the local flora and fauna with twice-daily game drives in the company of wildlife experts. In the dry season, excursions on foot are an option, while, in the wet season, the wetlands can be explored by motorised boat. Another, more traditional, option is to take an excursion by mokoro, the local punt-like canoe made from jackalberry trees.

Between outings, they can relax in the Explorer’s Lounge, at the restaurant, in the bar, or by the pool – or take a helicopter flight as an extra.
