Renfe‘s iconic luxury tourist train, Al Ándalus, is marking its 40th anniversary with the release of an expanded itinerary that will take effect from 2026.
Under the changes, the train will include Madrid as a departure or arrival point for the first time, with the introduction of new stops across Castilla-La Mancha and Extremadura.
“For the first time, the capital will be the departure or arrival point for the journey,” Renfe announced. “Next year’s program will combine heritage, gastronomy, and landscapes from the south and inland of the Iberian Peninsula.”
The 2026 itinerary will maintain its traditional seven-day, six-night format while adding destinations such as Madrid, Aranjuez, Toledo, Cáceres, Mérida, Córdoba, Jerez, Cádiz, and Seville.

Destinations on the revised itinerary include the Royal Palace of Aranjuez, the windmills of Campo de Criptana, the Roman ruins of Mérida, the Mosque-Cathedral of Córdoba, and the equestrian show in Jerez.
“This expansion not only brings the Al-Andalus train to new audiences, but also reinforces its commitment to a sustainable, exclusive, and experiential model of rail tourism,” Renfe stated. “The new route allows visitors to discover the region from a different perspective, in an environment that combines history, comfort, and attention to detail.”
With meticulously restored cars, guests can choose between a Deluxe Suite or a Grand Class Room, both with a full bathroom.
