Viking has taken delivery of its newest Viking Longship, the Viking Nerthus, at Meyer’s Neptun Werft shipyard in Rockstock-Warnemuende, Germany.
With capacity for 168 guests, the Viking Nerthus will cater to growing demand for travel along the Seine River, according to Viking.
“We are proud to welcome the Viking Nerthus to our growing fleet of award-winning Viking Longships,” said Torstein Hagen, Chairman and CEO of Viking.
“France continues to be a destination of great interest for our guests, and with the arrival of our newest ship on the Seine River, we look forward to introducing even more curious travellers to the region’s rich history and cultural treasures in ‘the Viking way.’”
The Viking Nerthus, with its 84 staterooms, features Viking’s signature Scandinavian design as well as a hybrid propulsion system, energy-efficient solar panels, and shore power capability to minimise fuel consumption in port. The ship is nearly identical to several of Viking’s other ships, including the Viking Kari, Viking Radgrid, Viking Skaga, and Viking Fjorgyn.
This new addition to the fleet will sail Viking’s popular eight-day Paris & the Heart of Normandy itinerary, as well as the newly introduced Christmastime in Paris & Normandy itinerary, calling at ports like Giverny, Rouen, and the Normandy beaches. Both journeys offer guests the chance to explore the enchanting sights of France, from the Eiffel Tower to the picturesque Normandy villages.
This delivery marks another step in Viking’s continued expansion, with 25 additional river ships and nine ocean ships expected by 2030.
