Fiji has recorded its highest-ever overseas visitor arrivals, breaking through the 1 million mark for the first time in 2024. The South Pacific holiday hotspot for Aussie travellers welcomed more than 982,938 tourists globally by air —up 5.7 compared to the 2023 result — and just shy of 82,000 cruise ship passengers last year.

Australia alone recorded a 4.8% increase in visitors, now holding 46% of the total market share.

New Zealand recorded 226,000 arrivals by air, that number up a significant 23% year-on-year. The United States accounted for 11% of air arrivals (107,821), with China and Continental Europe both accounting for 3.1% (or around 30,500 each).

The peak arrival months varied by market, with September most popular with Australians, July for Kiwis and Americans, February for Chinese and August for Europeans.

Tourism Fiji said the success of the cruise industry has been especially notable.

“The strong cruise sector has created immense economic value, supporting local communities and businesses across the nation. With continued collaboration, even greater returns are expected in 2025,” the tourism authority said in a statement.

“We are thrilled to have welcomed over a million visitors to Fiji via air and cruise, but we are also focused on ensuring that this growth remains sustainable,” Brent Hill, CEO of Tourism Fiji said.

“Our priority is to attract tourists who not only appreciate our stunning landscapes and rich culture but also contribute to a high-yield tourism sector.”

“With strong partnerships, a growing airline and cruise industry, and exceptional performance in key international markets, we are confident that Fiji’s tourism industry is on a promising path for continued success in the years ahead,” Hill added.

Anthony Goldman, Joint Managing Director of Goldman Group which includes luxury agency, Travelcall, told LATTE: “Long gone are years of questionable luxury experiences in Fiji.”

“As Australians, we are fortunate that we have wonderful hospitality within 5 flying hours, combining Fijian hospitality with natural beauty.

“The likes of Kokomo Private Island, Como Lacaula Island, Six Senses, Royal Davui and Vomo Island are all helping to raise the bar. We need to continue to educate our clients of these luxury options on our doorstep,” Goldman rallied.

“Fiji is such an exceptional destination for luxury travellers,” said Shannon Fogarty, Product Director, Luxury Travel Collection.

“The Luxury Travel Collection’s Hotels de Luxe portfolio includes several of the very finest properties including Tokoriki Island Resort which offers the most stunning relaxed and intimate luxury experience. With a maximum of 72 guests at the resort, it’s also famous for being the ultimate romantic beach vacation in Fiji.”

“Congratulations to Fiji – you are always on our list of favourite destinations!” Fogarty added.
