New Zealand will welcome a new boutique luxury hotel brand to its accommodation landscape with the soft opening of IHG Hotels & Resorts’ Hotel Indigo Auckland on 23 December, just in time for the holiday season.

Situated on Albert Street in the city’s bustling midtown, the 54-room soft opening will offer guests a glimpse of what’s to come when the full 225-room hotel opens in early 2025.

Hotel Indigo Auckland will feature unique dining venues designed in collaboration with Australian hospitality firm Ingram Advisory. Opening in March 2025, these include a French-inspired bistro, a café-come-wine bar, and a sophisticated cocktail lounge, each drawing inspiration from the dining culture of New York, London, and Paris. During the soft opening, guests can enjoy complimentary local tastes in the lobby while being guided to nearby trendy dining spots.

Hotel Indigo Auckland is led by General Manager Mathew Simister, who brings years of experience with IHG Hotels & Resorts. He previously oversaw the openings of Holiday Inn Queenstown and Crowne Plaza Fiji Nadi Bay.

“We are thrilled to be soft opening New Zealand’s first neighbourhood-inspired Hotel Indigo property in Auckland just before the summer holidays, giving guests a taste of what’s to come in 2025,” he said.

“Hotel Indigo Auckland will be the poster child for the culturally rich boutique brand in New Zealand, showcasing the storied past of its heritage motoring site through its design and artworks, to its internationally inspired dining venues.”

Alice Scott, Director of Sales and Marketing, joins the team with extensive experience, including her role with the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023.

The hotel also boasts the culinary expertise of Executive Chef Yutak Son, known for his work at top venues such as Sidart and The Shed at Te Motu vineyard.

Housed in a 41-storey tower, the property retains its 1912 heritage façade, once home to the “Motor House”.

This marks the fifth Hotel Indigo property in Australasia, expanding IHG’s boutique offerings in the region.
