The inaugural Climate Action Plan unveiled by Preferred Travel Group earlier this month aims to tackle the climate crisis within the travel and tourism industry.
In collaboration with the Travel Foundation, the company has set out the plan to reduce its carbon emissions by 50% by 2030 and achieve net zero emissions by 2050.
“As someone who has witnessed firsthand the transformative power of travel, I have always believed in its ability to connect people and cultures. With this privilege comes the responsibility to ensure that travel contributes positively to our planet,” Preferred Travel Group CEO Lindsey Ueberroth said.
“Our Climate Action Plan demonstrates that we are taking concrete steps toward building a more sustainable future. This is a commitment we are wholeheartedly invested in, and we invite our industry partners and guests to join us on this critical journey.”
The plan’s development involved a comprehensive, data-driven approach, with expertise drawn from the Travel Foundation and carbon consultancy ecollective. It includes a baseline emissions inventory across Scopes 1, 2, and 3, and feedback from associates to identify areas for improvement.
Aligning with the Paris Agreement and the five pathways of the Glasgow Declaration, the company’s objectives aim to offer a balanced approach to sustainability.
“The company is well positioned to reduce emissions in the pursuit of ambitious climate targets while also leveraging our larger sphere of influence to scale positive impact in the years ahead,” Preferred’s Vice President of Sustainability Nina Boys said.
In 2025, Preferred Travel Group will focus on refining policies, improving emissions tracking, and fostering engagement through training and resources.
