More than three years after a major earthquake forced La Palma’s old Sol La Palma hotel to be evacuated, the Canary Islands property has been reborn as the Meliá La Palma.
The reopening of the hotel, located in Puerto Naos, under the Meliá umbrella comes after a significant upgrade of the property, according to Gabriel Escarrer, Meliá President and CEO.
“The new Meliá La Palma follows in the footsteps of many other establishments in our Group that have evolved and repositioned themselves at a higher level,” he said. “And I am confident that this has also boosted their social and financial profitability, and also generated a positive impact in terms of quality employment, local redistribution of profits, reputation among inbound markets.”
Although the hotel reopened several months ago, naming restrictions have meant that the property can only now use its new name.

“As owners, we have more than achieved our goal of converting the challenge posed by the volcano eruption into a great opportunity for the hotel and for tourism on La Palma, and we are sure it is just the beginning of a new successful era,” GMA CEO, Victor Martí said.
The property comprises 308 rooms, with an additional 165 apartments located in the La Palma Affiliated by Melia apartment building.
It features a striking infinity pool as well as an astronomical observatory so guests can discover La Palma’s renowned star-gazing opportunities.
Dining has also had a full reboot at the property with Mossaico offering international and local dishes, Cape Nao offering Mediterranean cuisine and La Taqueria La Hacienda serving up Mexican fare.
