New era for Taj Cape Town

The resort will blend beach vacation and safari experiences

Six years after its launch in March 2010 under the helm of general manager Michael Pownall, Taj Cape Town has appointed Sanjay Sood as their new general manager.

Mr Sood has more than three decades of hotel experience and has held positions as general manager in many of the Taj franchises, such as Taj Banjara, Hyderabad, Taj Club House, Chennai, Taj West End, Bengaluru in India and Taj Pamodzi in Lusaka, Zambia. Mr Sood, who moved to Cape Town from Lusaka, now runs a 176-room hotel that incorproates the historic Reserve Bank of South Africa building, on St George’s Mall. USPs for experiential travellers include oysters and wine in Twankey brasserie, overlooking St George’s Cathedral and Parliament Buildings to the other side of Wale Street, and dining in old bank vaults.

Former general manager Micheal Pownall joining local hospitality management company PMR Hospitality Partners to asisst and guide assorted ventures to increase Cape Town’s tourism appeal.
